Please read the following carefully as having ourselves rented Dynamometer services for several years and having been in your position, we have had the misfortune of NOT knowing just what we will be charged for - so to keep things clear it is best that you have a good understanding of the services we offer and the related costs involved, this way we can hopefully build a great working relationship.
Please note that all the work undertaken is in strict confidence and all results of testing are your personal property and will not be divulged to a third party unless you say so, all our equipment is serviced and calibrated and with this will give a true figure of data received from the engine.
Testing capabilities
We can test, Inboard and outboard Marine Engines – Inboard up to 2000 bhp outboard up to 500bhp Vehicle engines up to 2000 bhp
We have at the moment 56 logging channels [with to option of a further 56] logging twin wide band lambda – 5 gas Exhaust Analyser - Engine Knock on two channels – Temperatures and Pressures as required- Engine “Blow-By” – Fuel Flow and Pressure - Engine Combustion Pressure can also be logged as well as real time spark advance even on early points type distributors giving a true advance curve.
Test Cell
Our Test Cell is reasonably spacious and fully automated as is the water cooling system allowing us to carry out endurance testing if required with no limit to time running, the cell is air feed and extracted automatically to maintain a balanced cell temp and pressure, giving reliable repeatability of test results, we also have engine air intake air handling unit allowing chilling and heating of engine intake air supply. Exhaust extraction is by way of a 4 way extract ducting on a variable rate extraction, all our motors are controlled by dedicated inverters making the cell extremely cost efficient and as a new instillation every effort has been made to ensure the environment has been protected by way of our water system is a recirculation not a wasted system and all intake / extract systems are noise suppressed ensuring a safe environment to work within, our control room housed the two PC’s that run the operation and log both the data and real time video if required (all data and video is confidential to the customer) unless otherwise stated. Large Quad glass viewing window along with video gives the client an adequate view of the test cell and engine. Dynamometer was new 2010 along with the latest “Land & Sea” Dynomax Software giving endless testing capabilities for unlimited automated tests along with data collection.
Firstly please read the “Engine Dynamometer Information \ Disclaimer” Sheet to familiarise yourself with the services offered and the outline of test procedures, please note that if a signed and dated Information \ Disclaimer is not presented with the engine to be tested on the agreed date then no set-up or test procedure will be commenced and you will be charged for a missed booking fee, this amount will be 50% of the agreed test rate for the engine.
Costs (all listed costs are ex-vat)
Initial Set-Up Costs – This will be charged on a hourly rate or part off at our standard workshop rate of £65:00
Initial Set-Up This will include bolting the engine to the stand, aligning and connecting the drive shaft, connecting the fuel and water system, installing any required data acquisition sensors, connecting RPM pickup lead, connecting the throttle control, connecting exhaust extraction lines and the fitting of sensor bosses into exhaust / intake etc.
Initializing and configuring computer program to suite the engine type and customer requirements. The time taken to “Set-UP” is totally dependent on engine type and customer requirements but in the case of a frequently tested engine this time can be as little as 2.5 hours.
Engine Testing Time, this can be at a Hourly rate of £125:00 per hour or a day rate at £880:00 Special rates can be discussed for customers returning with more than 5 engine tests a year.
Parts Costs, If you require parts for instillation / repair then we will endeavor to supply from stock or locally sourced suppliers these parts will be charged at our std stocked rate.
Sensor mounting bosses and damaged sensors will be charged to the customer.
Additional Charges will be for operator input into carrying out adjustments to the engine to optimize the power torque and running efficiency of the engine undergoing test. ( in brief if you are not intending to optimize the performance of your own engine undergoing testing then we will under your instruction carry out the necessary adjustments for you at a additional charge)
What you should present for testing
Engine in good serviceable condition, with all necessary ignition and fuel components, Engine oil of your choice (for dry sump engines please make available 20ltrs) Fuel of your choice to run in the engine. All required test components, i.e. Spark Plugs / Carburetors & Jets / Exhaust Boxes & Manifolds / Intake Systems / Camshafts etc Please be well Organized and have a test procedure to run to this will hopefully enable you to complete your adjustments and tests in the allocated time and save you money.
